The Mortgage Banker's Association announced the new Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System today; the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators (AARMR) are the owners of the new venture.
The intended aim?
The NMLS will bring greater uniformity and transparency to the mortgage industry while maintaining and strengthening the ability of state regulators to monitor the industry and protect their citizens. -- (Quoted from www.stateregulatoryregistry.org)
States that are currently participating in the new venture...

I think the optimism in us says that as we move further an further along, more States will embrace the change. Either way, my advice to all remains the same:
I'd like to think that I'm one of the good and honorable people.
I agree with the consensus that this is a good thing. A natural corrective process is taking place right now with market conditions being what they are. The concept of uniformity and transparency is one that needs to come to the forefront. Thanks for posting on this!
Hi Kris: Nice to see you! I couldn't agree more with Adam either :)
Rick & Don: Happy New Year! We'll have to wait and see how this progresses in 2008.
Karen: you said,
Given that we haven't experienced a market like this...the optimism in all of us says we'll see more cooperation moving forward. But the costs of such a program are certainly pushing people out.
